Android update Samsung is expected to get rid of the shadow of Apple's patent case

However, the patent issue will be resolved by upgrading from Android 2.1 to Android 2.3. The part involved is how the photos are viewed on the touch screen. It is reported that only the Gallery application infringes the problematic patent, and Samsung has confirmed that it will update the software to solve this problem.

Samsung’s lawyer Bas Berghuis van Woortman stated that the reason for the injunction was the Gallery's scrolling method. If the mode changes, there is no reason to enforce the injunction. The ban will not take effect until mid-October, giving the South Korean handset manufacturer enough time to change the software.

Although the lawsuit filed by Apple at the beginning included three patents and one social design, only the Gallery patent was accepted by the judge and the others were excluded. The slide-unlocked patent is likely to be declared invalid. The judge specifically mentioned that the Neonode N1m phone has already been used. It is unlocked in exactly the same way as the iPhone.

Apple's similar lawsuits for the design of Galaxy smartphones were also ruled out, and the judge cited many previous similar designs, including LG Prada. In the Android GUI patent section, the judge cited Nokia 7710 as a precedent.

Samsung expects that only in the Netherlands will be affected by this decision. The company said that this decision is not expected to affect sales in other European markets.
