Application of Small Rural Wind Turbine in China

From the early 1980s, China began to develop small wind power generation technology as one of the important measures for rural electrification. It mainly develops, demonstrates, and applies small-scale wind turbines for farmers, herdsmen and fishermen. After nearly 30 years of development, the technology of small-scale wind turbines below 5 kilowatts has matured and the annual capacity of 60,000 units has been formed. At present, China's small-scale wind turbines have a stable market with annual sales of tens of thousands of units, and thousands of them are exported to foreign countries every year. In remote areas where access to the power grid cannot be reached, about 1.5 million farmers, herdsmen and fishermen use wind energy to achieve home electrification. Electric lights and TVs enter fishing boats in farmhouses and livestock houses, and the quality of life of farmers, herdsmen and fishermen has improved significantly.

China can now produce 100 watts, 200 watts, 300 watts, 500 watts, 800 watts of 100 watts of small wind turbines and 1 kW, 2 kW, 5 kW, 7.5 kW, and 10 kW kW wind turbines. Some factories also prototyped 50 kW wind turbines. At present, the largest domestic sales volume is 300 watts of small wind turbines, followed by 200 watts, 500 watts, and 1 kW of small wind turbines, and wind turbines with more than 5 kW have less domestic sales.

At present, China has become the world's largest producer of small wind turbines, and more than 30 manufacturers are engaged in the production, R&D and sales of small wind turbines and their accessories. Small wind turbine products mainly serve the domestic market, and some products with superior quality and appearance are exported to foreign markets.

China has abundant wind energy resources on land. From the perspective of the distribution of wind energy resources, land-rich wind energy resource-rich areas, rich areas and available areas account for 8%, 18% and 50% of the total land area of ​​China respectively. This provides good conditions for the wide application of small wind turbines in China.

The wind speed of small wind generators is generally between 3 and 4 m/s. The rated wind speed of domestic small wind turbines is usually between 8 and 10 m/s; the maximum working wind speed (or cut-out wind speed) of small wind turbines. It's about 25 meters/second. The wind speed range for small wind turbines to work safely is 3 to 9 winds, that is, the wind speed can safely work between 3 to 25 m/s.

Any area with good wind resources (average annual wind speed greater than 4m/s, no typhoon disaster), inaccessible power grid or insufficient power supply in pastoral areas, agricultural areas, lake areas, mudflats, and outposts is suitable for small wind turbines. Promote application work. For example, the application of small wind turbines in grassland and pastoral areas of Inner Mongolia is very common, and it effectively solves the problem of power consumption of herdsmen.
