Good journey! Aviation-specific VR helmets!

Imagine you sitting in your chair and wearing a pair of oversized glasses on a very long international flight. Then the glasses start to play 3D movies or virtual reality videos, and the screen is only a stone's throw away from your eyeballs.

For Skylights, this will be an air entertainment project they will build in the future.

This French start-up company produced a helmet with a built-in screen that can provide "the rear view of the theater" and can be used to watch high definition 2D, 3D or virtual reality content.

On Thursday, Skylights released their second-generation wearable device called Bravo, which airlines can lease and sublease to passengers for use on a fee basis.

In the past year, Skylights has cooperated with a number of European airlines on their helmet products, including Air France, Royal Dutch Airlines and French Airlines, a low-cost airline. In July, the company set up an office in California, where Aalto feared, and used it to achieve their entry into the US market. Sales director Laurence Fornari described the situation.

Unlike the small-screen helmets that are fixed behind the seats, Fornari said that their helmets can make passengers feel “from their scenes and from the surrounding environment”. This helmet will cover your eyes and ears, allowing you to "ignore the neighbors you don't know, as well as those noisy babies." Fornari introduced.

Skylights' competitors, however, are more than just built-in screens behind the seats. In fact, more and more passengers choose to connect to the local wireless network on the plane and use their own mobile phone, tablet or laptop computer to play video, music or television programs. Therefore, some airlines have already started to abandon such in-flight entertainment using helmets.

Fornari said that Skylights has entered into agreements with movie studios to obtain rights to movies, including 20th Century Fox and DreamWorks. Today, it can play more than 60 movies in helmets, and it can be used for six hours at a time.

Only a small part of the content provided by helmets today is 360-degree panoramic video or virtual reality content. Fornari said that when you are “binned” on an aviation chair, watching real virtual reality video is a tricky issue because the viewer’s activity space is limited and there is a good chance of airsickness.

She also stated that while allowing viewers to sit passively and statically on a chair, the company also intends to add more "film-style VR content," which can give viewers a greater sense of immersion. For example, content that requires the viewer to turn around to see it will be removed.

“We hope you can sit, relax and enjoy the experience that flights or trains bring to you,” Fornari said.
