3Glasses CEO Wang Jie: Will Work with Microsoft to Explore VR Interaction Standards

Despite claiming to be a startup company, the 3Glasses known as the “old driver” of the domestic VR industry must not be underestimated. For 3Glasses, 2016 was also a very successful year. It not only released the consumer-grade product Lanpo S1 in the middle of the year, but also became the only Microsoft VR helmet partner in China at the end of the year. Look forward to it again.

As early as 2015 before the “VR+” heat began, 3Glasses made an in-depth attempt to integrate VR with the entertainment industry. At the end of 2015, it launched a total of 1500 offline VR experience points with its partners, which greatly promoted VR. The process of popularization. Recently, 3Glasses CEO Wang Jie also accepted an exclusive interview with the reporter and shared her deep insight into the present and future of the VR industry.

The mobilization of VR does not mean that mobile VR manufacturers should pay close attention to user needs

From the domestic fiery one-in-one market in 2016 to the news of giants such as Microsoft, Oculus, and HTC, which are moving toward the road, VR's mobilization process has attracted much attention in its development in 2017.

As early as 2015, 3Glasses had launched a prototype of an all-in-one machine, but in the end it did not take a vector production. Wang Jie explained that this all-in-one is only an attempt of 3Glasses and has no intention to bring it to market. In fact, the mobile end performance at that time could not guarantee the good experience of VR. Most of the all-in-one machines only had a “mobile phone built-in” and there was no big difference from the general mobile phone box.

In Wang Jie's opinion, mobilization is an inevitable trend that all hardware vendors will consider. However, the mobilization of VR does not equal the current mobile VR. The current mobile VR is more based on the industry chain of mobile phones, and the performance is limited by mobile phones. Only a few high-end mobile phones can smoothly drive VR. However, such high-end mobile phones are also not cost-effective, and there are obstacles in popularization.

Wang Jie emphasized that the mobilization of VR does not happen overnight, and processor performance, underlying optimization and support, and wireless transmission technologies need to be improved. 3Glasses will also pay close attention to and layout of mobile VR in 2017. On the premise that it will bring good experiences to users, it will also launch relevant mobile products.

Wang Jie also believes that whether it is PC-side products or mobile products, close to the needs of users is the first. "We need to consider from the user's point of view what kind of equipment is what they really need. Is it to maximize all the parameters, or bring some more portable and more cost-effective products. Products for different application scenarios It must be different."

3Glasses will collaborate with Microsoft on hard and soft layers and explore ways of interaction

Together with Dell, Acer, Asus, Hewlett-Packard, and other giants, Microsoft has become a partner in Microsoft's VR business. This has profound implications for the development of 3Glasses itself and the rewriting of the domestic VR ecological landscape.

Wang Jie revealed that the cooperation between 3Glasses and Microsoft mainly has three levels. First, 3Glasses will be connected to Microsoft's underlying system, which will enable Lanpo S1 to reduce the requirements for host and graphics performance, and allow users to experience nearly 2,000 content on the Windows Mixed Reality platform. 3Glasses will also cooperate with Microsoft in its series of head-mounted displays and will push the products to developers, laying out the content for the hardware start-up. In addition, 3Glasses will also discuss and cooperate with Microsoft on the interactive method. Wang Jie predicted that the inside-out interaction will be the standard for VR head-ups in 2017.

In fact, when asked what breakthroughs the VR industry will usher in 2017, Wang Jie replied that Microsoft's entry will promote the unification of hardware standards and bring new breakthroughs to the VR industry. Wang Jie said that at present, VR hardware is “individual governance” in terms of display, field of view angle, and interactive methods, resulting in the need for content to adjust and change for different hardware when accessing different platforms, which not only takes time and effort, but also causes damage to the content. However, with a unified standard, content and hardware can start to increase.

The introduction of the 2016 Daydream standard has given VR's mobile phone manufacturers a self-improvement goal. In Wang Jie’s opinion, some domestic and foreign mobile phone brands will also be added to Daydream this year. However, due to Daydream’s demand for mobile phones, it will not generate a surge. Microsoft will standardize on low-level optimization and start debugging and interaction in the background for users' convenience. Microsoft, which almost dominates the global PC, will rewrite the PC-side VR ecological structure. "In the end, the global VR field will have two or three platforms for content developers to choose the right camp."

Even if Microsoft, Google and other giants stepped up their footsteps in the field of VR, Wang Jie believes that as domestic manufacturers Huawei and Xiaomi can also identify their own position in the international giants Apple, Samsung's ruling pattern to seize the domestic market and even some overseas markets, Domestic VR hardware startup companies can also make high-quality products suitable for the domestic market according to different cultural backgrounds, usage habits, and demand for products of domestic users, and even enter foreign markets. 3Glasses will also be deployed in the global market. For the domestic market, Wang Jie also said that "VR +" will be the focus of the 3Glasses layout, in addition to the game field, it will also choose one or two promising industry fields for deep plowing.
