China's 64-core CPU Debuts at Hot Chips, the World's Highest Performance ARM Architecture Server Chip

According to Xinhua News, a 64-core CPU and its server prototype designed by China Tianjin Feiteng Information Technology Co., Ltd. made its public debut at the “Hot Chips” high-performance chip seminar initiated by the IEEE in the United States. It attracts the attention of relevant practitioners from all over the world.

According to the engineers from Feiteng, the FT-2000/64 is the first 64-core general-purpose processor independently designed by a Chinese company and is the highest-performance ARM-based server chip in the world. It is reported that Feiteng Corporation is a company established by the high-performance processor research team of China National Defense Science and Technology University, and the most well-known work of the National University of Defense Science and Technology in the IT industry is the Tianhe 2A supercomputer, which won the World Supercomputer Ranking Performance Champion for five consecutive times.

In fact, as early as August of last year, Feiteng introduced the FT-2000/64 CPU, codenamed "Mars," to the symposium, and its performance surpassed that of Intel's top dual E5. Lei Feng network (search "Lei Feng network" public concern) is also in-depth interpretation of the first time. At that time, outsiders said that the product will be targeted at HPC and may be related to the Tianhe 2A replacement program of the National University of Science and Technology.

This processor has been favored by people for the past year, and the doubt has never stopped. This year, Feiteng company officially demonstrated this processor entity product and prototype. The FT-2000/64 processor uses an "Advanced Reduced Instruction Set Machine" (ARM) architecture, is compatible with the 64-bit instruction set, integrates 64 independently designed processor cores, has a core frequency of 2.0 Gigahertz, and has a peak speed of floating-point operations. It is 512 billion times per second and the measured power consumption is 100 watts in a typical application scenario.

In a silicon semiconductor die with a length of 25.38 mm and a width of 25.2 mm in a package with a length and width of 55 mm, the processor integrates 4.8 billion transistors thanks to a 28-nm integrated-circuit line width process. It is reported that in the future, a deeper version of the SIMD broadband technology will be launched.

Chip processors such as Intel's X86 processors use the "Complex Instruction Set Computer" (CISC) architecture, while ARM architecture processors are "Reduced Instruction Set Computers" (RISC). The advantage is that the number of required transistors is small and the operation efficiency is high. Low cost and power consumption, more suitable for smart mobile devices, high-performance servers.

Prior to the launch of the FT-2000/64, Feiteng had successively developed the FT-1500 series of 2 and 16-core processors, with cumulative sales of more than 20,000 pieces. The product is mainly used in China's financial, telecommunications, energy and other fields.
