The Recycle Bin is an important component of Windows 10. However, we may encounter some problems during use. For example, the same icon is displayed regardless of whether there are files in the recycle bin, which makes it impossible to distinguish the true status of the recycle bin when it is empty or full; there is no confirmation prompt to enter the recycle bin when files are deleted like Windows 7; No matter how you set it, the file cannot enter the recycle bin, and the file will disappear directly when you press the delete button. How to solve these problems?

1. The same icon is displayed regardless of whether it is empty or full

Under normal circumstances, the display form of the recycle bin icon on the desktop represents whether there are any deleted files in the recycle bin. But sometimes it also malfunctions, whether it is empty or full, the recycle bin icon is the same. At this time, we have no way of judging whether there is content in the recycle bin according to the icon.

If you encounter this situation, first check whether a third-party theme or icon pack is installed in the system. If such a program is installed, uninstall it and see if the desktop recycle bin icon can be restored to normal. You can also try to enter the "Theme" configuration window of the system settings and switch the theme to the Windows default theme to see if it can return to normal.

If the above solution cannot be solved, please right-click on a blank space on the desktop and select "Personalization", then click "Theme→Desktop Icon Settings".

In the subsequent desktop icon setting window, cancel the selection of the desktop icon "Recycle Bin", then click the "Restore Defaults" button, click "Apply" and confirm, restart the system. If the above process still cannot be solved, then select the "Recycle Bin (Full)" icon in the desktop icon setting window, and then click the "Change Icon" button to select an icon representing the full status of the Recycle Bin; then select "Recycle Bin ( Empty)" icon, and then click the "Change Icon" button to select an icon that represents the empty state of the recycle bin. Click "Apply" and restart after confirming to see if the desktop recycle bin icon returns to normal.

If changing the icon settings does not work, you can use the Group Policy Editor to try to solve it. Press Win+R to run the gpedit.msc command, start to the Group Policy Editor, navigate to "User Configuration→Administrative Templates→Desktop" in turn, find "Delete Recycle Bin from Desktop" in the right pane; double-click this item to enter Go to the setting window, select "Enabled", click "Apply" and confirm and restart.

Next, re-enter the settings, select "Not Configured", click "Apply" and confirm and restart. Then see if the desktop recycle bin icon can return to normal.

2. Retrieve the traditional file deletion confirmation prompt

Everyone must remember that there is a file deletion confirmation prompt in Windows 7, but since Windows 8 there has been no such prompt. In fact, this function is not cancelled, but an option is not selected by default. Now, let us right-click the recycle bin icon on the desktop, select "Properties" to enter the recycle bin properties window, see a "Show delete confirmation dialog box" check box below, select it and click "Apply" And confirm it.

Try to delete a file again. Does the delete prompt appear?

3. Repair deleted files cannot enter the recycle bin

Sometimes, we may inexplicably encounter the problem that deleted files cannot enter the Recycle Bin. Of course, we neither pressed the Shift key while deleting the file, nor did we select the option "Do not move the file to the recycle bin, delete it immediately after removing the file" option in the recycle bin properties setting window, but simply After selecting the file, press the Del button, and then no trace of the file can be found in the recycle bin. After encountering the above problems, you can first enter the administrator command prompt window, and then execute the following commands:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

After executing the above command, the recycle bin folder located in the system disk will be deleted forcibly. After restarting the system, the system will automatically rebuild this folder to restore the default function of the recycle bin.
