Samsung releases transparent OLED display that can be watched day and night

At the FPD International Exhibition in Japan, Samsung demonstrated a transparent flat panel display that can be used as a showcase. Based on OLED technology, this product is regarded as an application product developed in retail storefronts, capable of displaying news or time, and consumers can also see the display inside the store through the display screen.

Samsung Electronics introduced that when the office uses this kind of transparent display, there are many basic information that can be displayed. The news, calendar, weather and even Twitter of the day. In the office it can be used to show the work situation and can also be installed in the home kitchen to show recipes. In the OLED display, individual pixels contain organic materials that emit light when energized, so the display can be seen day or night. At the same time, the user does not have to worry about the safety of the product when it is used, because it is reflective when the back is seen during the day and even light is seen at night.

But this high-tech window display may be much more expensive than regular glass, and they can only do as much as the current display products, much smaller than the windows used by stores.

Samsung said that the display is currently being tested on a small scale in South Korea and will be commercialized in 2011.
