"Until recently, designers have been using discrete devices for backlighting and flash functions when designing mid-range camera phones with 2 to 5 megapixels," said Philip's logic manager phildewsbury. "Integrating backlighting and flash output current levels (expected from just one independent flash driver chip) on a single compact chip, the aat2848 helps handset designers reduce board space, component count and simplify design."
The aat2848 is a dual mode charge pump that operates in 1x and 1.5x modes. The chip can drive up to four backlight LEDs (led) and deliver up to 30mA per channel in dual mode (1x and 1.5x modes). It can drive two flash LEDs and deliver up to 300mA per channel in triple mode (1x, 1.5x and 2x modes).
The aat2848 uses two patented single-line simple serial control (s2cwire) digital interfaces for the on/off and setting of the LED current. The chip can be programmed to set the current of the backlight function to up to 32 levels. Any level. The flash led output can be individually programmed to 16 levels. The full-scale current of the backlight and flash is separately set by the outside.
The new driver chip also features an innovative fade in/out function that gradually increases the backlight led brightness from off to full brightness with a single 63-step linear step, which can be controlled externally. By replacing the micro-based software solution with the same functionality, this feature provides a smoother transition to full brightness while reducing software overhead.
The chip also adds a user-programmable safety timer to protect the flash LED from temperature damage. This feature turns off the flash after the preset time has elapsed. Both the safety timer and flash/strobe operation can be turned on via a separate flash pin.
The aat2848 also has built-in short-circuit and over-temperature protection. Soft-start limits current surges during startup and mode transitions.
The aat2848 is rated for operation over the -40 to +85°C temperature range and is available in a lead-free, 20-pin tqfn package and is priced at $1.42 each in 1,000-piece quantities.

The AS-I (i.e. actuator-sensor interface) bus belongs to the bus system at the bottom device level. It is a two-wire network for digital input and output, which complies with EN50295 and IEC62026-2 specifications.
Various types of digital devices can be connected, such as: Sensors, limit switches, buttons, valves, relays, light curtains and emergency stop switches, etc., and send signals to higher-level controls such as PC, PLC, CNC or DCS system. In general, AS-I does not require shielded cables and terminal resistors.
The unshielded two-wire cable used carries both the signal and the power. Generally speaking, the AS-I bus system is simple and reliable, easy to install and fast to configure, and is widely used in industrial automation fields such as logistics, automobile production, petrochemical industry, and elevator control.
The As-I Passive Distributor simple module is pierced and connected to the flat cable, which is suitable for installation in a narrow space, and can provide connection methods such as aviation connectors.
