Sidley Austin LLP announced that its client, Professor Gertrude Neumark Rothschild, has resolved patent infringement issues with Philips Lumileds. The settlement details were not disclosed.
On June 24, 2005, Professor Neumark announced that Philips Lumileds has infringed U.S. Patent No. 4,904,618 on "wideband gap semiconductor doped crystal process" and U.S. Patent No. 5,252,499 "wide bandgap semiconductor low bipolar resistance and composition method" LED will be A semiconductor diode that is electrically converted to light. Professor Neumark is an honorary retired professor of materials science and engineering and applied physics and applied mathematics and special research scientists. She received her doctorate title in 1949. She is the first professorship in the Department of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University.
