“Green lighting†is an important trend in the development of China's lighting market. Especially in urban road lighting, the space for developing green lighting is enormous. In recent years, I have made great progress and achievements in promoting the application of electronic ballasts in road lighting in Changshu.
In 2000, the city first applied electronic ballasts on the 100W high-pressure sodium lamp at the Cross East Road in Zhaocheng, which not only had uniform illumination but also reduced lamp replacement rate. In 2001, combined with the transformation of Wuhu Road, without the increase of cable wiring and the addition of light box advertisements on both sides of the road, the application of electronic ballast did not cause the original line to be overloaded, and the light source did not have any attenuation. In 2002, nearly 1,500 sets of electronic ballasts were invested in the new lighting project of Tonggang Road and the green channel lighting project of National Highway 204, saving the total cost of these two projects by 555,000 yuan and saving about 758,800 yuan per year. It became the first unit in Jiangsu Province to use electronic ballasts in large street lighting projects. Up to now, the total number of electronic ballasts used in Changshu street lighting has reached 1,853, saving an annual electricity cost of 1,687.9 thousand yuan.
