On the 24th, it was learned from the Beijing Municipal Construction and Construction Commission that this year the Beijing Metro will be built to open the first national production and humanization driverless line in the Chinese mainland, the Yanfang Line. The line employs self-developed unmanned metro vehicles and technology from China, and is the first fully automated driving route in Beijing.

According to reports, the Yanfang line is located in southwest Beijing, with a total length of approximately 16.6 kilometers. There are 9 stations in total. The maximum train speed is expected to reach 100 km/hour. A total of 4 vehicles are grouped, and the maximum passenger capacity is 1,262 passengers. As Beijing’s first truly unattainable route, the subway line of the Yanfang line has reached the highest level of automation in the world. From awakening to delivery, departure, driving, parking, opening and closing doors, returning to storage, hibernation, car washing, etc. Automatic control by the control center reduces the safety risks that may be caused by human error.
The subway trains used by the Yanfang Line are led by the Beijing Rail Transit Construction Management Co., Ltd., and many units such as China Railway Qingdao Sifang Locomotive & Rolling Stock Co., Ltd. jointly tackle research and development, vehicle integration technology, and traction, braking, network system control, etc. All core technologies are autonomous. In order to ensure safe operation, these trains also use internationally advanced safety technology and can automatically stop in an emergency if they encounter obstacles or derail.
According to reports, as a demonstration line, the opening of the Yanfang line will not only facilitate the travel of residents of the West Beijing area and the Yanhua area, but will also serve as a model for Beijing’s new metro lines that will adopt a fully automated operation system.
In addition to the Yanfang line, which has already entered the train debugging stage, this year Beijing will also complete the opening of two Xijiao and S1 lines (Shimenying to Jinan Bridge). The Xijiao line is Beijing’s first modern tram line, S1. The line is Beijing's first medium and low-speed magnetic levitation line. These three lines have their own characteristics, greatly enriching the types of rail transit in Beijing.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Beijing Municipal Housing and Construction Commission, the construction of the rail transit in Beijing in 2017 ushered in a new peak and will fully promote 20 lines (segments) and more than 350 kilometers of lines under construction. This will be the year that Beijing’s track construction has the largest number of lines under construction, the longest mileage in construction, and the heaviest tasks.
